Robotic Heart Surgery

Robotic Heart Surgery

Overview

Robotic surgery, or you may call it robot-assisted surgery. This surgery (Robotic surgery) allows surgeons to perform various types of complex procedures with more flexibility, precision, and control which may not be possible with conventional techniques sometimes. Robotic surgery is usually associated with minimally invasive surgery of the heart — procedures performed through tiny incisions in chest. It is also sometimes used in certain traditional open surgical procedures of heart.

About robotic surgery

Robotic surgery performed with the da Vinci Surgical System was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2000. This technique has been rapidly adopted by hospitals in the United States and Europe for use in the treatment of a wide range of conditions.

The most widely used clinical robotic surgical system includes a camera arm and mechanical arms with surgical instruments attached to them. The surgeon controls the mechanical arms while seated at a computer console near the operating table. This console gives the surgeon a high-definition, magnified, 3-D view of the surgical site inside heart. The surgeon leads other team members who assist him/her during this operating procedure.

Advantages:

  1. Allows the surgeon to operate even in complex cardiothoracic procedures
  2. Better precision and accuracy
  3. Enhanced visualization and improved access
  4. Three-dimensional - 3D magnification
  5. This gives the surgeon better control over the surgical instruments and a better view of the surgical site
  6. Naturally occurring hand tremors are filtered out by the robot's computer software connected with console.

Quick and Easy recovery

  • Less Pain and scarring
  • Shorter Hospital Stay
  • Reduced Blood Loss and need for blood transfusion
  • Reduces the risk of infection
  • Reduction in use of pain medicines
  • Faster Recovery & return to normal activities
  1. There are a various of cardiac conditions that can be treated with robotic heart surgeries. Some of these conditions are:
    • Severe coronary artery disease, angina and partial or complete blockage of coronary arteries can be treated.
    • Mitral and tricuspid valve regurgitation
    • Atrial fibrillation
    • Atrial septal defect
    • Patent foramen ovale

Robotic surgery involves high  risk, some of which may be similar to conventional open surgery, such as a small risk of infection and other complications.

Is robotic surgery right for you?

Robotic surgery isn't an option for everyone. Consult with your doctor about the benefits and risks of robotic surgery while you are in India and how it compares with other techniques, such as other types of minimally invasive surgery and conventional open surgery.

Cost

Depending on the patient’s condition and the hospital amenities, the cost of each type of surgery can be discussed with our team, you may connect with Crayon Healthcare Team for the same.
